Christmas isolation Scottish hunting lodge horror animal revenge

The Lodge by Chris Coppel

The Lodge unveils the mystery of a hunting lodge in the remote hills of the Scottish Highlands during the Christmas holidays. After the report of an accidental death at the lodge, Andrew, a young constable from the nearest town, drives up through a growing blizzard.

Snowbound, Andrew and the guests take cover at the lodge as the terrifying ordeal unfolds. These animals have souls. Souls that won't rest until they've had revenge...

FIVE STARS: An Absolute RiotSet in the Scottish Highlands during the Winter holiday, Chris Coppel’s ‘The Lodge’ opens with a young officer (Andrew) investigating an apparent accidental death at a remote hunting lodge. With a storm at his heels, Andrew is forced to hunker down with the rest of the guests and wait out the weather. Unfortunately, unbeknownst to our cast of stranded ‘red shirts,’ the lodge is under siege by a most improbable threat.

From beginning to end, ‘The Lodge’ is the epitome of a page-turner, one that skilfully blends an intriguing, horror-tinged premise (‘Pet Sematary’ immediately comes to mind) with heavy doses of suspense, gore-drenched action, and a strong undercurrent of dark comedy throughout. Simply put, ‘The Lodge’ is an absolute riot!

With a cover boasting the tagline, “The Hunters become the hunted,” one might think they are in for a ‘by numbers’ horror novel, but Chris Coppel manages to blend a highly entertaining mix of genres into this tight, trim novella. Sporting a surprisingly diverse, well-crafted cast and some fairly brilliant use of colorful dialogue, suspense abounds until the very last page. Add to that the author’s tight, sardonic prose, and you have yourself a rewarding read. Highly recommended.”

FIVE STARS: Creepy and entertainingThe Lodge is a twisty, inventive horror story about when the hunters become the hunted/haunted. The creep factor in this story is just enough to make the reader look differently at taking that hunting trip. It makes you wonder what if those animals we preyed on began to prey on us.

Coppel weaves a stunning visual, horrifying tale of isolation and unexpected circumstances. The character development and the plot is spot on and fast paced making this book an engaging page turner! I look forward to reading what Coppel comes out with next!”

FIVE STARS: The hunters being huntedA stellar read. Stephen King meets Hitchcock, with a gripping thrill at every turn. Chris Coppel does a phenomenal job at keeping the reader intrigued from the first moment--even the cover catches you. The writing and dialogue are filled with sardonic charm and horrific ease. The premise is unique and really gets you thinking about what twists and turns might be in store for you.”

Reminiscent of another book I read recently, They Did Bad Things by Lauren A Forry, complete with Scottish highlands and all. I couldn't suggest this book highly enough if horror and suspense is your jam. I feel excited to read more from this author!.”

FIVE STARS: The Lodge -- If you Dare!!“The Lodge” is set in the Scottish Highlands with Andrea, who is investigating an accidental death at a remote hunting lodge. A storm evolves and he is forced to stay with the other guests and wait it out, only to be a part of an improbable threat. This is definitely a page-turner with an intriguing mystery with a bit of horror. The book includes some interesting comedy that adds to the entertainment in this mystery, edge of your seat thriller. It is a very quick read that can be complete in one sitting, maybe not at night before bed since it can be a bit gory, but definitely will hold your interest with every word.”

FIVE STARS: Bon AppetiteOh, man, I love this book! I was a hunter, when younger, but still enjoyed this book. I only ever hunted because of need, consuming the harvested animal and never did it lightly. Never have I drank alcohol or trophy hunted. And I am a women. I guess I am far from the average hunter in many ways. I am certainly different from all the hunters in this little scenario. This book is excellent! I gave it 5 stars because of the twists and turns throughout and especially at the end. The epilogue was perfect, spot on. Bon appetit!”
